Since the start of the new year, I decided I was going to read my bible entirely through. So I started to read a little every day. Then that turned into a couple chapters a day. There’s so much to be learned from every little part that I come across. I usually write things down in the journal I keep with my best friend, but since we switch out the journal when we see each other, I guess I can write my thoughts here.
This week I started 1st Chronicles. I won’t lie and say that I was totally captivated by the first page. All that it reads are names and genealogies, no real story or plot to come out of it. But then I got to another excerpt like the one from D. T. Niles. This one had no author and is one put in by the publishers of the book. It was along the lines of the lists of names and family lines showing how God cares about individuals and also gives truth to the bible. I don’t think I had ever thought about it like that.
I think it’s really easy to get distracted or bored reading names for days. But I think if we look at it through the point of view that it’s just showing us how important we are to Him, I think it gives it a lot deeper meaning. It amazes me that we serve a God that cares so much about his people that He would call them out name by name in His book. Doesn’t that show the love He has for us? I’m sure we’ve all been to a place where we felt petty, or small, or insignificant. But after reading this, it’s hard for me to feel that way anymore. I don’t understand it. But God thought enough of His people that long ago to mention them name by name, generation by generation, and that really gives me a crazy feeling of importance. Not a cocky or arrogant type of confidence or anything like that, just that me, out of everyone in the world is important to the one who created everything. I’m astounded by the type of love that He has for me.
